WP2 - Calibration

The site-specific calibrations of the resistance factor in the 2013 study (Lacasse et al 2013a; b; c) calibrated safety factors for the characteristic shear strength parameters established a priori for the deterministic analyses for three different soil profiles.

To draw general conclusions on the partial safety factors to use with each of the CPT-based methods, the JIP included 13 case studies. The load and resistance factors were calibrated for different target annual probabilities of failure (i.e. 10-3/yr, 10-4/yr and 10-5/yr).

The uncertainties in the load and geotechnical parameters and in the design methods were included in the calibration analyses. Both deterministic and probabilistic analyses were carried out. The results of the partial safety calibration exercise will be made publicly available after the confidentiality period of the JIP is over.
