WP 3 – Development and verification of early phase rule based input parameters to the modules
In order to use the software throughout a complete OWF development project, assumptions and simplifications may need to be taken, in particular during early stages of a project.
Often, only a limited number of field and laboratory data are available. Based on these, soil design profiles and soil properties as well as information on the loads need to be assessed. This WP is divided into two main activities, which are further divided into tasks.
Activity 3.1. Load and structural response module
Efficient estimation of the dynamic loads from wind, wave, and currents during early foundation design iterations is critical for design optimization. To complement existing time-domain aero-hydro-servo-elastic design tools, an efficient and flexible load module will be developed based on a combination of frequency domain and time domain approaches.
As input to the load module, statistical metocean data will be needed, either in the form of a scatter diagram or as a long-term joint distribution based on a combination of Weibull and log-normal marginal distribution parameters. Additionally, a geometrical description of the substructure and some basic wind turbine design parameters will be considered as input.
Activity 3.2 Geotechnical modules
Several correlations have been developed for estimating strength and stiffness parameters for soils, and corresponding charts and diagrams were published. However, these are not directly applicable for the advanced calculation procedures which shall be implemented in RedWin 2.
The correlations need to be extended and complemented by numerical parametric studies in order to generate from CPT data input data to the calibration tools for the models (e.g. RedWin, PISA). This will allow to establish rule-based input parameter generation to the different geotechnical-related modules, which will enable to perform a foundation design even at a limited amount of available data.
Goal of this WP is to develop simplified charts, diagrams and correlations to fill information gaps between the output from WP2 and required input to the different advanced calculation modules WP5, which is done in a rule-based framework.
