Plastic pollution is a severe problem in Kenya. Large amounts of single-use plastics kill wildlife and livestock, harm fisheries, and block sewage and drainage systems. In the project target area, Kisumu at Lake Victoria, endangered species are at significant risk. Therefore, the Project aims to enhance the collection and recycling of plastic from Kisumu.

Firstly, the Project has built a new buyback center in Kisumu based on TakaTaka's experience, allowing efficient collection. The center is close to the city's dumpsite, and the plastic is thoroughly sorted at the buyback center before it is compressed and sent to recycling in Nairobi.
Secondly, the Project will address the plastic waste outside the dumpsites. Plastic will be collected through local Vosh churches and sent directly to the buyback center. Collection from households will decrease the burden on the waste collection systems and reduce plastic contamination by other waste fractions (such as organisms), making recycling difficult.
Also, the Project aims to raise awareness regarding plastic pollution and knowledge of what individuals and communities can do to help. An awareness campaign will be implemented targeting church leaders, communities around churches, and the general public through social media, radio, tv, public schools, etc.
