WP1 - Identification of materials and reuse barriers

The identification will be carried out by utilizing mass balance data, volumes produced and remaining, their contamination potential of the materials, and the methods currently used to handle them at the end of their life. Using NGIs contact with relevant actors and experience from previous projects, NGI has a sound foundation for this work.

In addition data collected by the Statistics Norway will be used to document the types of waste and surplus materials. Both physical and chemical characteristics will be used to assess where these materials could be reused.

The factors that hamper reuse will also be identified. These factors could relate to the materials properties, current legislation or bureaucratic characteristics. To correctly assess this, contact with the Norwegian Environment Agency, who make decisions for individual reuse cases and the county councils, who are responsible for the safe handling of the waste and surplus materials, is essential.
