Overview of NGI's Events at Arendalsuka 2024

This year, as in previous years, NGI is represented at Arendalsuka. Arendalsuka is intended to be a venue where actors in politics, society, and business meet each other and the public for debate and the shaping of policies for the present and future.

NGI will participate with two events, one in collaboration with NORCE and the other with the Norwegian Computing Center, NR.

1 Year After "Hans": How Can We Help Municipalities Adapt to a Future with More Extreme Weather?

The extreme weather event "Hans" caused significant damage in many municipalities and highlighted the importance of adapting to a changing climate. Municipalities are on the front lines of climate adaptation. It is a formidable task that requires a holistic approach. Collaboration between research institutes, the business sector, and municipalities is crucial to develop the innovative solutions needed for a climate-resilient society.

Together with NORCE, we will attempt to clarify some questions:

• What challenges are municipalities facing?
• What changes are necessary to succeed in climate adaptation?
• What role does knowledge from research institutes play in emergency preparedness, and how can we strengthen municipalities in facing climate change?

Digital solutions and artificial intelligence (AI) are already important tools for dealing with the consequences of climate change. Together with the Norwegian Computing Center and an expert panel, we will delve into the issue.
